Florida women accused of tossing baby around ‘like a toy’ at bar

On Thursday at around midnight, Police responded to the Coyote Ugly Saloon in reference to a disturbance. Two women were arrested on Thursday after police say they tossed a four year-old baby around at Daytona Beach bar. The incident was allegedly recorded by many witnesses who gave statements to law enforcement.

According to the arrest report, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old were “throwing the baby in the air and flipping him upside down” in the bar while both women were intoxicated. Both women were taken to jail and are facing criminal charges for Child Abuse.

You may have the same questions I have: Who are the baby’s parents and where were they? Why is a baby allowed in a bar? Why were two underage women intoxicated at a bar?

Florida child abuse laws are designed to protect the most vulnerable members of our society. These laws encompass a range of offenses, from physical abuse to neglect, with severe penalties for those found guilty. Child abuse is a third-degree felony and is punishable for up to 5 years in prison, 5 years of supervised probation, and up to a $5,000 fine.

As a defense attorney, it is crucial to review all evidence pertaining to the case. The videos allegedly recorded by the witnesses would be very important to this case.

In Florida, defenses against child cruelty charges typically revolve around challenging the evidence presented, asserting one’s innocence, or questioning the legality of law enforcement actions. Attorneys may also explore issues of parental rights, mental health, or mistaken identity to build a defense strategy. It’s important to remember that each case is unique, and consultation with an experienced attorney is crucial to navigate the complexities of child cruelty charges in Florida’s legal landscape. Protecting children is paramount, but a fair legal process is equally essential.
